Recently, MPs 1,137 and 1,138 were sanctioned. The first one aims at reducing tax rates on the income of foreign investors in Brazil, while the second one provides for the reduction of the IRRF rate that is levied on remittances abroad intended to cover expenses of Brazilians in other countries.
Our lawyer Andressa Moreira, specialist in Tax Law, clarified the main points of the new measures regarding the Migalhas portal. Regarding MP 1,137, Andressa commented that there will be an exemption from income tax on gains earned by foreign investors in private securities, such as debentures and income from Private Equity Funds in Infrastructure, which shows the government’s intention to boost foreign investment in the country. Regarding MP 1,138, she emphasized that the current rate is 25% and that in 2023/2024 it will be 6%, which contributes to boosting the tourism sector.
