The article by the newspaper Valor Econômico highlighted that the privatization of Eletrobras was reflected in the appreciation of its shares, with experts estimating potential gains of up to 60% for securities. Further according to the article, this scenario could benefit the Government, which is now positioned as a reference investor and no longer the controlling shareholder, holding 30.4% of the company's share capital. Adding up the shareholdings of BNDES and BNDESPar, this percentage reaches 34%.
Contributing to the article, our partner Julian Chediak said that if the Government's percentage does not change, having it as a reference shareholder is not an issue. "Whether the Government wants to eventually abuse it, is another story." The Government has to account for as a shareholder, and the system is mature enough for this to be possible. The CVM deals with the Government with the same responsibility as other shareholders," Julian added.
