4-day workweek? See the proposals to reduce the workweek pending in the Congress

“Thank God It's Friday”? The reduction of the workweek to four days a week, without a proportional reduction in salary, has become a trend abroad and is being tried in some startups in Brazil. Bills to shorten the working hours of the workers have already been presented to the Congress, some of them even before the pandemic, but there is still no progress.

Our partner Flavio Aldred, specialized in Labor Law, told the newspaper O Globo that changes in the workweek should come from a change in corporate culture, and not by force of law: "I understand that this should be something defined by the company. If it understood that it wants to give a better quality of life to the worker with a shorter workweek, or if it wants to pay a proportionally lower salary.

Flavio also highlighted that, if there is a change in the workweek by law, as has already happened through the 1988 Federal Constitution, it would be important to give a period for the companies to adapt.
